Purpose & Principles
Our Purpose:
The Jewish Diaspora Movement (JDM) is a participatory network advancing an ethical future for Jews, Jewishness, and Judaism rooted in the solidaristic diasporic traditions that have been the core of Jewish life for millennia. We connect and amplify the growing constellation of Jewish cultural and spiritual organizations that reject ethnonationalism and proudly value universal freedom and the sanctity of all life.
Judaism is always evolving; each generation and location reshapes it for its needs.
Religion, culture, and politics are intertwined; our traditions carry both oppressive and liberatory legacies, and we choose the liberatory.
Multiplicity of practice, background, and identity is our strength.
Solidarity with oppressed peoples, including in Palestine, is central to our Jewishness.
Complexity, autonomy, collaboration, coalition building, and constructive conflict are necessary for strong communities.
